Scrap Standards for Bridge Crane Wheels

The criteria for scrapping bridge crane wheels are typically determined based on the degree of wear and the extent of damage.

The following are common criteria for scrapping bridge crane wheels:

Flange Thickness Wear:
Wheels should be replaced when flange thickness wear exceeds 15%–20% of the original thickness or falls below

the specified safety thickness. Excessively thin flanges may cause derailment.

Flange Height Wear:
If flange height wear reaches 50% or more of the original height, the wheel must be replaced to prevent the wheel from coming off the track.

Wheel Diameter Wear:
When wheel diameter wear reaches 3%–5% of the original diameter, or reaches the limit dimensions specified

by the manufacturer, the wheel must be replaced to ensure the smooth operation of the bridge crane.

Cracks and Defects:
If cracks, spalling, or chipping appear in the flange or rim area—especially if cracks or chipping exceed 10% of the

wheel’s circumference—the wheel must be immediately scrapped and replaced.

Wheel Deformation:
If the wheel exhibits deformation, tilting, or abnormal vibration and noise during operation, this indicates that

the wheel’s operating condition has become unstable, and it should be scrapped.

Wear on Axles or Bearings:
If the wheel’s bearings or axles are severely worn, affecting the crane’s stability and safety, the wheel should also be replaced promptly.

These scrapping criteria are typically clearly specified in the bridge crane’s equipment maintenance manual.

Operators are advised to conduct regular inspections and maintenance in accordance with the manufacturer’s 

guidelines and relevant safety standards (such as ISO and GB standards).
