As a critical piece of equipment in industrial operations, the brake wheel of a bridge crane plays a directly vital role in ensuring the safety of both personnel and production. According to industry maintenance experts, the decision to scrap a brake wheel must be based on multiple technical criteria. When any of the following conditions occur, the brake wheel should be immediately taken out of service and replaced.

Wear Level is a key parameter in determining the service life of a brake wheel. In accordance with common industry practices, when the working surface of the brake wheel has worn down to the extent that its thickness is reduced by 20% to 30% of the original thickness, the scrap threshold has been reached. At this point, braking performance has significantly deteriorated and can no longer meet safety braking requirements.

Cracks constitute a rigid indicator for brake wheel scrappage. Whether the crack is visible on the surface or hidden internally, once detected, the brake wheel is deemed to have lost its serviceability and must be scrapped immediately to prevent the risk of fracture and serious accidents during operation.

Deformation also represents a major safety hazard. If the brake wheel develops significant distortion due to prolonged uneven force distribution or abnormal impacts, it will directly affect the contact between the brake lining and the wheel surface, resulting in insufficient braking torque.

Corrosion is another critical factor. When severe corrosion appears on the surface of the brake wheel, compromising its mechanical properties and safe operation, the wheel must be scrapped without delay.

Fatigue Damage may occur after extended use. Signs such as surface spalling, localized pitting, or indentation indicate that the material has reached its fatigue limit, and the brake wheel should be scrapped accordingly.
